His family name came from his ancestor, Juana Guevara de la Serna, who was from Madrid in the 19th century.

At the age of 19, Che Guevara decided to embark on a long journey through Latin America. His journey took him to Peru, Colombia, Venezuela and then finally to Cuba, where Che Guevara joined the revolution to lead Cuba's liberation from Batista's dictatorship. Che Guevara's military strategies, charisma and ideology were used as examples of strategic action during the Cuban Revolution and later in other countries.

After the victory of the Cuban Revolution in the early 1960s, Che Guevara returned to Cuba as Minister of Industry and also worked in the Public Health Service. During his reign, he propagated fundamental social reforms and led the process of Cuba's industrialization.

Ernesto Guevara de la Serna died in October 1967 at the age of 39 due to his commitment to the revolution in Bolivia, but he left an immortal impact on the history of the revolution in Latin America. His name and image have since become an icon of revolutionary movements, socialisms and anti-colonialism worldwide.

Che Guevara also left an extensive literary legacy that has been effective at all levels of the Latin American Left. His writings include themes of nation and social justice, revolution and straight nationalism.
